Die Funktion
.B getusershell()
gibt die nächste Zeile der Datzei
.I /etc/shells
zurück und öffnet die Datei, falls nötig.  Die Zeile sollte einen
Pfadnamen einer zulässigen Benutzershell enthalten.  Wenn
.I /etc/shells
nicht existiert oder nicht lesbar ist, verhält sich 
.B getusershell()
so, als wenn
.IR /bin/sh " und " /bin/csh
in der Datei aufgelistet wären.
